FAQs—Because It’s Okay to Ask

How much alcohol is too much? Do I really have a problem?

Everyone’s relationship with alcohol is different, and you don’t have to be pouring gin on your cereal to know something feels off. The World Health Organization now states that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption—but what matters most is how you feel about your drinking. If you’re waking up wondering, “Why did I drink again last night?” or telling yourself each morning that today will be different, it might be time to reassess your relationship with alcohol. If it feels like alcohol is taking more than it’s giving, you’re not alone—and support is here.

What is a Grey Area Drinker, a Middle Lane Drinker, or an Average Drinker?

These terms are often used interchangeably to describe someone who isn’t at either extreme of drinking—not a casual social drinker and not physically dependent—but who finds moderation hard. Someone who is drinking more than occasionally (two or less drinks a week) but not in need of medical intervention to stop. You might drink more often than you’d like, struggle to “just have one,” or find yourself caught in a loop of regret and self-promise. Grey area drinking is the in-between space—and it describes so many of us.

Is this coaching program for me?

This coaching is for you if you’ve taken a break from alcohol before—maybe Dry July, Sober October, or 30+ days alcohol-free—and you’re ready for deeper, lasting change. However, if you haven’t taken a break or suspect that you may need medical supervision to stop drinking safely, then this program isn’t the right fit. You deserve proper medical care, and once you’re safely through that process, coaching could absolutely be a powerful next step.

What’s the difference between coaching and counselling?

Counselling often focuses on the past—exploring trauma, family dynamics, or mental health. Coaching is future-focused. It’s about where you are now, where you want to go, and what’s standing in the way. As your coach, I offer accountability, perspective, and practical tools. I won’t tell you what to do, but I will help you uncover the patterns, beliefs, and habits that are shaping your decisions—and support you in shifting them.

Is this like AA (Alcoholics Anonymous)?

Not at all. This isn’t about labels, rules, or giving up control to something outside yourself. You don’t have to call yourself an “alcoholic,” and there’s no one-size-fits-all path here. This is about you tuning in, building trust in yourself, and creating an alcohol-free life that actually feels good. It’s about discovering freedom, peace, and joy on your own terms.

You’re Not Alone in Your Questions

What experience and qualifications do you have?

I bring both personal experience and professional training to this work:

  • Lived experience:: My last glass of alcohol was 31 December 2021. I have been where you are now. I have felt the same struggles, the deep desire for change and the challenges of breaking free. I understand where you are and where you want to be. My role isn’t to be in the boat with you but to hand you the oars so you can steer your own course with confidence.
  • Alcohol-Free Living Coach – Affective Liminal Psychology Certified (trained by Annie Grace of This Naked Mind Institute)
  • Gray Area Drinking Master Coach – NOURISH Method (trained by Jolene Park of Gray Area Drinkers Resource Hub)
  • Master of Human Nutrition – Deakin University (not my focus,  but a foundation that supports my holistic approach to wellbeing)
I don’t know if I should invest in coaching. Shouldn’t I be able to do this on my own?

This is such a common question—and totally understandable. Of course you can try to do it on your own. But it’s also okay to want support. Change is hard. Having a guide, structure, and support can make all the difference. Coaching helps you stay accountable, shift your mindset, and learn tools that actually work in real life. You’re not broken if you want help—you’re wise. Investing in yourself is a powerful first step toward the life you truly want.

How do I explain to others that I’m not drinking?

In a drinking culture, this can feel tricky—but it doesn’t have to be. We talk about this a lot in coaching. But for now, know this: you don’t owe anyone a detailed explanation. A simple, honest line like “I’m taking a break to focus on my health” is enough. What matters most is that you feel grounded and confident in your choice. You never need to justify taking care of yourself.

I’ve already been sober for a while. Is this still for me?

Absolutely. Many people are alcohol-free but still feel like they’re white-knuckling it—relying on willpower alone to stay the course. I did that too, in my first six months. Being alcohol-free shouldn’t feel like a struggle. This coaching helps you shift from surviving sobriety to loving it. You’ll go from holding it together to actually thriving—living with clarity, ease, confidence, and joy.

My mission is simple:

To help women feel free. Free from shame. Free from the endless rules. Free from seeing alcohol as the only way to switch off or feel like themselves.

Life without alcohol isn’t the end—it might just be the beginning of something better.
